In the men's pre-season cup fixture, Fleur de Lys F.E.B. recovered from two sets down against Marsascala Lipton. Fleur de Lys started off on the wrong foot with many unforced service-reception errors and were powerless against the strong spikes of Paul Vella and David Caruana. In the third set, Patrick Bonett came on as setter for Fleur de Lys and this changed the course of the game. They slowly gained more confidence with excellent team work and well placed spikes by Anatony Gatt and Paul Tonna. The match was forced to a fifth set and with Fleur de Lys on a high; they found no problem in closing off the match at 3-2.

In the ladies category, Paola Hibs Candy met X-Sel for the third and fourth place decider. Hibs played their usual game and X-Sel could were never in a position to overcome the Paolites. Hibs won this game 3-0. In the final match, Flyers met Playvolley in what was to be another five set thriller. Playvolley had Nadia Lanzon missing whilst Flyers coach Steve Farrugia had both central players, Louise Camilleri and Daniela Borg missing. Playvolley started off well with Maria Demicoli and Yana Vella playing very well. Flyers were not their usual self as they committed many errors in defense. Playvolley managed to win a two set lead but the tables then turned as Flyers played a more aggressive volleyball with Lindsey Cordina heading the attack. Daniela Muscat and Dorianne Debono were instrumental in the Flyers recovery. Again, this match went to a fifth set decider with Flyers emerging as winners thus winning the first pre-season cup organized by the Malta Volleyball Association.
The match between Marsascala Lipton and Aloysians will be played this Thursday at 8.30pm at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
The 2007/2008 season kicks off next Sunday with the men's and ladies Super Cup finals. In the men's category, Aloysians meet Fleur de Lys while in the ladies category, Paola Hibs Candy play against Flyers. Matches will be played at 2.30pm and 4.30pm at the Cottonera Sports Complex.
