In the under 18 league, Playvolley started well against a less experienced X-Sel and convincingly won the first set. The second set was more balanced but good efforts by Playvolley's Shana Bugeja was enough to close the second set and give Playvolley a merited win.
In the men's league, Aloysians played against Marsascala Mapei with the latter registering a suffered win against Alan Gauci's team. The match was a very balanced one with both teams winning two sets each thus forcing the game into a tie-break. Although Marsascala seem to be far stronger on paper, as most of their players form part of the national team, they have found great difficulties in expressing the level of volleyball they should be thus giving opportunities to less experienced teams. The fifth set was a thriller and also saw Aloysians leading for a few moments. Marsascala were able to pull themselves together and close the set at 15-12 thus starting the 2007/2008 league with a victory.
In the ladies league, two games were played last weekend. In the first match, X-Sel continued their winning streak with a convincing win against Playvolley Blue by 3 sets to 0. Middle players Thais Gatt and Daniela Bonnici together with a good performance by Claire Tonna were instrumental to give Claudio Coppini's team their second win of the season. Playvolley Blue, on the other hand were unable to put up a fight but did their best during the third set with dangerous attacks by Maria Demicoli and a good performance by Anna Aquilina. However, X-Sel managed to fight back and win the third and final set.

In the second match, Paola Hibs Candy beat Playvolley Red by 3 sets to 0. Hibs were always in the lead and the younger Playvolley team never threatened the Paolites despite the good work by players like Melissa Borg and Franklan Gatt. Hibs Coach David Bonnici was without the injured Elaine Caruana and gave the opportunity to all available players together with a slight change in rotation between sets with Alison Borg Hayman first used as an outside spiker and then used as a central spiker.
Besides the usual good performances by Carmen Gauci, Gertrude Zarb and Delicia Farrugia, one must praise young Sherika Seychell and Roxette Caruana for their performances in the second set. One also saw the return of Caroline Sciberras in the Hibs squad after an absence of 3 years which will surely have a positive effect on Hib's game.
